The Strange Traveller

Jean Valjean

A new day and new things to face. I had just woken up and God I felt awful! The party last night was tremendous, and definitely I was hung over. Well my sister seemed to be feeling worse, or would feel worse. She was just lying on the floor. I decided to go get something to eat. My family was already up; I could listen to my mother fixing the kitchen and my father’s on the phone. As I went in the kitchen, apparently my mom knew what my sister had bin u to last night. She had a big breakfast for us so we could feel better. I then decided to go and watch some television, but apparently that would ot be possible. I was about to sit down on the couch with my breakfast, I looked over and saw this awfully dressed, dirty man sleeping on my couch! My immediate reaction was to start screaming and running around to my father’s, but the saddest part was that I threw my breakfast and it was completely ruined. It was definitely a new day and new things had to be faced.

When my hysterical yells got to my father, mother and my passed out sister, they all came running to see what was going on. My sister saw that man and she freaked out as well. My mother just told us to stop screaming and led us to the kitchen. My father went to say something to the man who was pretty embarrassed by my reaction. When my father finally came to the kitchen, he sat down and explained to us why this man was here. We said that his name was Jean Valjean and needed a place to stay, so he gave it to him. A friend named Ronny told me who this man was; he was just freed from jail. No wonder he had such a dreadful aspect. My sister and I definitely did not want this ex-c0nvict to be staying at our house, but father said that we had to be good people and not judge him for that; he deserved to be treated as a person. Well he was right on some part.

It was noon, and we all got together to have lunch. My sister and I were still uncomfortable with that man sitting with us at the table. As my father started conversation with Jean Valjean, I understood that he was not a bad man; he was incarcerated by a decision that he made to sustain his family. Poor man went to jail for 19 years just for stealing bread. He was not evil. I thought that he was a murderer, but Jean Valjean seemed like a good hearted man. He began to tell us how he was so grateful with my father because no one wanted to give him shelter or food just for who he was. He was not that well mannered, but deep down in his heart, he showed that he was a good hearted man and wanted to remake his life.

When we finished lunch, I took my father aside and spoke to him about Jean Valjean in private. Admitting to him that he was right and that Jean Valjean deserved a second chance was hard, but has to be done. I told my father that I would like Jean to work for us. He could be of great help around the house and we could give him food and shelter. My father thought it was a great idea and went to speak with Jean about this.

My sister and I waited anxiously for Jean’s decision if he was to stay or to go. As my father came in the room, his face expressed disappointment. My father offered Jean Valjean the job, but he denied it. Jean said that he wanted to remake his life in a new place and doing that here would be pretty hard; everyone already new about him and his past. My father decided to give him some money to make it to a new lace. Jean accepted it and with much sadness said how grateful he was with our family and would never forget us. He then said good bye, and never saw him ever again. That was my story with Jean Valjean.

Prejudice in Favor of New England

Summary: In this letter, John Adams tells Abigail Adams how the world humans live in is tied to social relationships. He also tells her how out of all the colonies, New England is the best one of them all. This is because people there are purer english people and are not mixed with other cultures such as the irish cultures. Also because New England enforces grammar schools for the young people and they also support religion and morals very much in difference from other colonies. They also provide many jobs for the people and prove that they can put their knowledge to work. Unfortunately, even though they have all of these things, as they are only a colony, they are still exploited by the governors of the country.

Rhetorical Devices:

Appeal to reason: "The poeple are purer English Blood, less mixed with Scotch, Irish, Dutch, French, Danish, Sweedish, etc., than any other; and descended from englishmen too who left Euorpe, in purer times that the present and less tainted with corruption than those they left behind them." (John Adams 681)

                  This quotes shows appeal to reason, bevause John Adams says how New England is a better colony than the rest. With this quotes he says how english are pyrer peole than the ones in other colonies, and this makes the reader think how this is actually a reason for them to be better.

Persuasion: "The public institutions in New England for the Education of Youth, supporting colledges at the public expense and obliging Towns to maintain grammar schools, is not equalled and never was in any part of the world." (John Adams 681)

                 This quotes shows persuasion, because John is talking about how education is not equal all over the world. This quote makes the reader feel like this should change and there should be equal education for the youth no matter where.

Refuting Patrick Henry

What is it that we have always believed in? This is a simple answer; God. He has taught us everything that we are. He is who has given us everything that we are, our parents, our goods, and the power to fight for what we want. Now, there comes this common man, who thinks that what he says is what right and is what should be done. Who is this Patrick Henry to come and tell us what we are supposed to do in order to live happy? Who does he think he is to come and change what we believe in? Yes, we all want one thing in common; freedom, but what he wants in order to obtain it is just atrocious. Ever since the history of time, we have been held in God’s hands, and he has taught us things that we have followed and respected. For example, he has said that we have to value life as a gift, and we are no one to be taking it away. How is it possible that after all the blood that has been shed, this man wants more lives to be taken?! There has been enough war already and it needs to stop. Patrick Henry is acting just as all those bloodthirsty British pigs. If we want liberty, we need to act as the bigger people here and do it in a civilized manner. By making revolts we are just making the situation worse for us because the British army will just react in a more violent way. Patrick Henry has just been fooling you and does not let you see, he is the one making us blind. Henry tells us that it is better to die than to be prisoners, but we all know this is not true. We all prefer to be alive. This man also says how after all the petitions we have made; the British still do not listen, and yes it is true, but his reactions to all of this result in violence that is just embarrassing. He makes it seem as if all of the colonists want freedom and will take war as the only option. This man is just making our situation here worse than ever. People, we need to stay civilized. We need to keep on protesting and protesting. We need to continue this and never stop, do it until a point where it becomes so annoying that something will be done about it. I just ask you to please rethink your options and take the wiser one; think about what God would want you to do. God bless America!

Change the World; Live Healthier

Now a days, many people die of many diseases at such a young age. The worst part about this is that all of this could have been prevented. Just by doing little changes, many lives could have been saved. People should start living healthy lifestyles in order to live longer and happier. To some people eating greasy things like Burger King or chips may taste better, but on the long run it ends up ruining their lives. Besides eating all of this junk food makes your body fat and flabby, it causes many serious diseases such as Diabetes and Cancer. It is now time for all to think before they eat what they are putting into their mouths and how this will affect them. People should start eating more fruits and vegetables and also start taking other healthy styles too. All of this will get you into great shape and you will live longer. Other things people should do, is sleep earlier and exercise. We all need sleep in order to function correctly, but some people just prefer to be out partying than sleeping and resting their bodies. Lack of sleep is a major cause for anger and concentration issues. Sleep at least nine hours a day, and you will live happier and become smarter. Exercise is also an essential thing in living a healthy lifestyle. Exercise helps us not only to stay fit, but is also helps release stress and cleans the body from toxins in it. People have searched for the solution to living longer for many years when they have ha it in front of them all the time. Not following these things dose mean you will live a miserable life, but by following them you will have a better body, prevent many diseases, become smarter, live happier and most importantly live longer.

                A new day, a new game, a new outfit. Well what will I do today? Let’s go. Oh there’s mommy! She now picks me up and takes to drink my morning milk and watch my daily show; Mini Einstein’s! I love them! Vivienne and Knox are here now. I really wish they could talk, life would be much less boring. My show got ruined thanks to those drooling babies, I better go wander around. Finally Maddox is up I’ll ask him if he wants to play outside. “Shiloh we cannot go outside! There is a big party today ad mommy wants it all to be perfect!” Now that is great! First my show is ruined and now I cannot play outside! “Hey Shiloh come! Let’s go play cars in the kitchen.” As always Maddox has the best games in the house, Zahara only plays with stupid babies and barbies, and the twins well, they only drool and cry. After two hours of making car tracks in the kitchen my mommy called me up to my room. I was really exhausted and did not want to do anything but take my nap. “Shiloh honey you need to get dressed, it is time for the part.” Party! Oh no not now! I thought we were supposed to stay inside and be on our best behavior! Oh God the worst part; I have to wear a dress! I hate those; I prefer to stick to my jeans. My mom helped me put it on. She said I looked beautiful and I really did, but I just did not feel any comfortable, plus I was extremely exhausted. Well I will just go and pretend to fall asleep, my dad will carry me inside and I will be able to take this stupid thing off.


Wow! This party is huge! I believe this is the party where my mom has invited the most people. Okay so I will go see if I know anybody. Well everyone seems to know me, but I do not really recognize any of them. Oh there is daddy! I will run ti him so I can sleep in his arms. Wait, who is that? Great, its that girl my mom dislikes so bad. My mom says she is bad and that we should stay away from her. I believe my daddy calls her Jen. “Brad Shiloh has got so big! I cannot believe it, she looks just like you!” ok Woman can you please stop touching me! After a while, my mom finally took me and I fell asleep. That was a great nap, I needed that. Hey this is not my house! Where am I? Mommy! Daddy! Maddox! “Shiloh be quiet! SHH! Now listen to me very carefully, you are going to be fine, I just want to teach a little lesson to your mom about messing with the people others love.” It is that Jen girl! Mom was right, she is bad! Oh no I want to go home. Well this house is not so bad after all, I can watch all the TV I want, eat what I want, and if cry I annoy that woman which is much better. Hey that is me on the television! People are looking for me? There is my mom and she is crying! Oh no I am running away, I need to make my mom stop crying. The door is open, perfect opportunity. “Now where do you think you are going? You are not going anywhere missy. Now get back up in the room.” This crazy woman got really mad, she dragged me top the room and slapped me and said that if I did not stop crying my mom was really going to get hurt. I do not want that. What do I do? I need to call mommy. Hey dad showed a number to call in case of an emergency. I will do that. Wait Shiloh get yourself together; stop crying or the old lady will listen to you. Ok so here I go, 9-1-1! “What is your emergency?” “My name is Shiloh and I want to go back with my mom, I saw on TV and want her to stop crying.” “Oh my God it is Shiloh! We found her! Trace the call! Where is she? It is Jenifer Aniston’s house! Ok honey relax, we are on out way.” Ok so that should work. “What did you just do? You crazy little brat! You just ruined everything!” I started running, now she got really angry and started beating me. I need her to stop, it hurts! Mommy! Hey I fell asleep, that was weird. “Oh Shiloh Honey you are okay! I was so worried!” Hey it is mom and dad! Where is the old lady? “Baby don’t worry about that woman again, she won’t hurt you. Well Jen, apparently I win again.”

33 Miners trapped in a mine in Chile are found ok after 17 days!!!

1. 17 days ago, a mine in Santiago Chile collapsed and 33 miners were trapped inside. After all the worrying and agony from the loved ones and authorities, the miners are found perfectly safe at the mines shelter. The miners sent a note stating that they were all fine, and the president Sebastian Pinera waved it to Chile's people. All of Chile celebrated happyness.

2.  Many people are involved in this article. It begins the president of Chile saying that all of the miners are fine. Then its talks about the 33 miners and the plan to how they will be rescued. It also includes many rescue teams from many parts of the world like the US, Australia, and of coarse Chile.

3. Something wrong with this article, is that the author out of nowhere starts talking about a miners event in the US that lasted seven days. Maybe the author wanted to establish a relationship of events between the two accidents, but does not make it clear. There is a small bias in this article. The author is stating that after the miners were found okay, the entire population of Chile gathered around in joy and excitement. I believe that the only ones doing this would be the miners' loved ones. Most of the people would be relived that they were found okay, but they would not have gone to celebrate to the Plaza Italia as the author stated. Also, from what the author explains, he makes it seem as if the US was directing the rescue. There is a statement where an american rescuer says that what his team is doing, is logical thing to do; in a very minimizing manner. After the miners where found ok, they explained how they would get food, water, and oxygen over to the miners. These are their essentials to survive. Sanitation is also something they need. It is rumored that the miners will be rescued in about four months, and throughout this period of time, where will they do common necesities such as urinating? This lack of sanitation in such a crowoded area could actually end up killing them. So they should think of a way to ensure that it does not happen.

4. In all, I believe that this was a great article. I read about the accident before and thought that it would be really hard to rescue the miners. Fortunately they were found and alive. After they installed a probe from which they can communicate with the miners, a man said that this would help on keeping the miners alive because through this they could communicate with their loved ones. Psychologically this will maintain their spirits in shape. One of the miners stated "God is great and will keep us alive. Patience is all that we need." He is right; all they need to do is be patient and stay strong.
